Training arraigo: requirements, eligible courses and documents

Guide to training arraigo: stay, integration report, eligible training, enrolment and employment of up to 30 hours per week.

Assess my case

The training arraigo links residence authorisation to specific training accepted under the regulation. Choosing the right course is essential: an academy advertising a “course to obtain papers” does not mean the course meets the legal requirements.

Training arraigo requirements

You must be in Spain, normally prove two years of continuous stay and meet the general arraigo requirements. Criminal records, absences and immigration status are checked. You cannot be an international protection applicant when applying or during processing; asylum processing time is excluded under the terms of the regulation.

You must also not hold a stay or residence authorisation or have ongoing procedures covered by Article 126.h. Training arraigo additionally requires a social integration report and training falling within Article 127.d.

Which courses are eligible?

The regulation refers to certain post-compulsory secondary studies, specific vocational training and professional certificates, including level-one cases, and in-person compulsory adult education. It also provides a training-commitment route promoted by public employment services for the occupations specified in the regulation.

Not all private, language or short courses qualify. Before paying, ask the centre for the official name, course code, authorisation, format, duration, schedule and entry requirements. Check these against the applicable legal category.

Enrolment and deadlines to monitor

The ordinary route requires enrolment or attendance in eligible training. If enrolment has an official period, apply for arraigo in the two months before that period begins and provide proof of enrolment within three months of notification of approval.

Changing training must be justified and the new course must still meet the conditions. Failure to prove enrolment or participation where required may end the authorisation. Keep attendance and achievement certificates and communications from the centre.

Required documents

  • EX-10, a complete passport and proof of fee payment.
  • Evidence of continuous stay and foreign criminal records where applicable, with the required formalities.
  • A favourable social integration report.
  • Enrolment, a certificate from the centre or documents concerning the applicable training commitment.
  • Information identifying the official or eligible status of the training.

Can you work with training arraigo?

The granted authorisation permits employment of up to 30 hours per week in total, with pay meeting the statutory minimum or collective agreement proportionately to hours worked. Hours are added together even with several employers. Enrolment or submitting an application does not constitute permission to work.

Application, validity and continuation

Apply to the competent Immigration Office. Initial validity is one year. To assess an extension or modification, review the training, progression to the next year or qualification obtained and, where applicable, active job seeking. Plan ahead before expiry.

Frequently asked questions about training arraigo

Does an online course qualify?

It depends on the training and required format. Not every online course qualifies; check the specific programme before enrolling.

Is a contract needed to apply?

Its specific requirements are eligible training and the integration report, alongside general conditions; not the employment contract required for employment arraigo.

Is this the former training-based arraigo?

It is the category under the current regulation. Earlier applications and permits must be reviewed under the legislation and transitional rules applicable to them.
