Spanish nationality exams: CCSE and DELE A2, with free practice

Which exams are required for nationality?

Nationality by residence generally requires constitutional and sociocultural knowledge through CCSE and Spanish through DELE A2 or higher. Exemptions and waivers exist: check your circumstances before paying.

CCSE has 25 questions across five tasks and lasts 45 minutes. You need 15 correct answers. Wrong and unanswered questions do not deduct points. The certificate is valid for four years.

DELE A2 assesses four skills. A reading quiz alone cannot determine whether you would pass the complete exam.

A DELE A2 pass requires at least 30/50 in each group: reading + writing, and listening + speaking. A combined total of 60 points alone is not sufficient.

How much do the exams cost?

If you need both: €223 in total. This excludes the nationality application fee and professional service fees. Always confirm the price shown before paying.

CCSE includes the examination, certification and preparation materials. DELE includes examination rights and the diploma. DELE does not provide a free second attempt after failure or absence. CCSE has its own second-attempt conditions: check them before registering.

How to register and choose a session at Instituto Cervantes

Booking an “appointment” here means registering for an exam session. It is not an immigration appointment.

1. Open the official Instituto Cervantes portal. Create a candidate account or sign in. Use an email address you can access and complete the verification requested by the portal.
2. Choose CCSE or DELE A2. To sit the exam in Spain, select the country, centre and available session. Check places, the exam date and registration deadline; the two exams have separate calendars.
3. Check candidate details and required identification. Your details must match the identity document you will use for the exam.
4. Pay through the official payment gateway. Check the exam, centre, session and amount before confirming. Immigration fee forms are not used to pay for these exams.
5. Keep the payment receipt and the registration confirmation containing your candidate code. They are different documents: payment alone does not confirm registration. Check your email, spam folder and private account.
6. Check the centre instructions, address and original documents you must bring. For DELE, also confirm your speaking test date and time: it may take place separately from the written papers.

Before paying: check possible exemptions

DELE exemptions for nationals of Spanish-speaking countries, studies in Spain and waivers have specific requirements and evidence. Learning difficulties do not automatically grant a waiver. Check Article 10 of Order JUS/1625/2016 and seek guidance where needed.

How to use TRALIF practice

The CCSE mock test selects 25 original questions from a bank of 50, using a 10/3/2/3/7 task distribution. Exam mode gives you 45 minutes and marks at the end; training provides immediate explanations. Review mistakes and try again.

A2 provides 12 reading questions, 8 listening questions with synthetic speech, two writing tasks and three speaking tasks. This is partial skills practice, not a complete official paper. Writing and speaking need teacher assessment. No overall DELE pass or certificate is issued here.
